This is another grant for a “Breakfast after the Bell” program. This one is in Carleton School. The Foundation’s goal is to help provide this valuable program to all schools in Salem County.

Family Health Initiatives will assist the Foundation with oversight, monitoring, and collecting community feedback regarding the initiatives through the creation of an Advisory Board. They will provide support, information and feedback on grantee progress and promote Foundation projects within the community.

Food Bank of South Jersey – $7,500
Cooking Matters for Teens is a second year of classes to be conducted in the spring of 2015 at Salem High School.The FBSJ will also offer Community Nutrition Outreach Training for Teens. This training prepares teens to conduct nutrition-related outreach programs in their school and communities, such as healthy cooking and healthy baking demonstrations. By training teens to offer nutrition education, they will be able to reach more Salem teens and increase the sustainability of the program.

This grant will enable Quinton Township Schools to provide a “Breakfast after the Bell” program, which helps to overcome some of the barriers that prevent children getting a much needed healthy breakfast.

Rutgers Cooperative Extention – $275,000
Partnering with the Salem Health and Wellness Foundation, Rutgers Cooperative Extension/Family and Community Health Department will hire a Family and Community Health Sciences Program Coordinator for Salem County. This is a five year partnership to assist SHWF with it’s Healthy Kid’s Bright Futures Initiative.

This grant is to build on The Food Trust’s existing work with Salem Health & Wellness Foundation’s Healthy Kids Bright Futures initiative by introducing an Early Childhood Nutrition Education initiative in 3 to 5 sites around Salem County. This work will use the Food Trust’s existing farm to preschool toolkit, The Preschool Initiative: Building a Healthy Foundation for Life as a vehicle for introducing physical activity and nutrition education into early childhood classrooms. This is a two year program.
